Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Broadcast date : 12th November 2006

Say it again, with feeling, yes?

Lamborghini’s are named after famous fighting bulls, and this one just got a little meaner.

This is the Murcielago LP640.

The numbers stand for 640 horsepower, or 471 kilowatts in Decimal Dan terminology.

The LP bit stands for longitudinale posteriore - meaning the engine is mounted longitudinally in the back

This is the latest and greatest from Lamborghini in a long line of greats.

It’s very similar to the common-and-country-mansion Murcielago, except for 41 extra kilowatts, and razor-sharp styling and performance enhancements.

Italian it certainly is, embodying so many attributes associated with the feisty residents of this ancient European country. Words like stylish, sensual and sexy-with-attitude spring to mind.

The LP640 will accelerate to 100 in 3,5 seconds.

It’ll take you and your passenger – if you can find one brave enough – to a top speed of 330 km/h.

You can choose a proper manual gearbox, or a paddle shift if you think this will convince your girlfriend to think you hang out with Fernando Alonso.

But what does Lamborghini really stand for, apart from lots and lots of money?

Well, as the saying goes, "If you have to ask, you’ll never know".
