Auto Africa is South Africa’s
major motor show, and this year it enters true world-class
level.
It opened on Saturday 28th October 2006 at the Nasrec
Exhibition Centre near Soweto, and the scope of new model
launches was impressive indeed.
From Audi, all eyes were on the new TT…
Over at Alfa, the new Spider was drawing nearly as many
drooling glances…
While for those with their eyes firmly on the budget, the new
Chana pick-ups from China are bound to appeal to the small
businessman or woman.
You have to look twice at the new Mini to spot the
differences.
But there’s no mistaking the wow factor of the new M6
convertible.
Possibly the most significant launch of all in terms of the
South African motor industry was that of the new Hummer, seen
in public for the first time.
Right-hand-drive models will go
into production in 2007, while these are destined for export.
A supercharger plus Jaguar’s beautiful new XK equals the
even newer XKR. This one is hot off the European launching pad
in Paris.
And yes, there are some supercharged attractions at Auto
Africa that even non-motorheads will appreciate.
The show is on at Nasrec during the whole of this coming week.
So if you’re anywhere near South Africa, let alone Soweto
from now until Sunday the fifth of November, make sure you get
there.
