Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

Broadcast date : 11th June 2006

Ga-yaardo. You say it as if you are almost going to pronounce it with an L, the way itís spelt. But then you drop your tongue and open your mouth with a latin lip-curl, bordering on a sneer.

So, is the Gayaardo Spanish then, you may ask? No, itís as Italian as, well, Lamborghini, which produces the car. But for some reason most Lamborghinis have been named after Spanish fighting bulls. Hence the Spanish pronunciation.

This is the Spider, which means it has an open top Ė in case you hadnít noticed.

The Lamborghini bit, in case youíve been doing a Rip van Winkel on us since 1964, means itís Italyís second-best-known-and-loved supercar. And thanks to German Audi investment funds, Lamborghini has really taken the fight to Ferrariís 430 with the Gallardo.

Does all this seem a bit Euro-culturally cross-overish?

Thankfully thereís no confusion about the numbers. V10, 4,4 seconds 0-100, 290 top speed, 382 kilowatts of soul music. Ask Clint, the man with a smile on his face.

Oh yes. Did we mention the Gallardo Spider was sexy too?

2,7comma-seven million Randís worth of instant sex-appeal.
