Chrysler PT Cruiser Cabriolet

Broadcast date : 16th April 2006

Hey everybody. Lookatme! Iím the kind of cat who drives a cool car. And suddenly everybodyís cool car got a whole lot cooler.

The PT Cruiser is essentially a 1930ís hot-rod modernized for the 21st century. The cabriolet version takes the fun factor one step further than its semi-MPV sibling, and we have to say the stylists did a fine job in turning this car into a California-look coast-road cruiser.

To mark the launch of the Cruiser Cabriolet, the PT Cruiser also received an extensive facelift.

Thereís a new truncated grille and bumper combo up front, as well as spotlights and new headlights. But practicality is the PT Cabís strong suit.

Thereís obviously a new rear end as well, with new lights and bumpers. Chrysler is particularly proud of the fact that this car is the most roomy cabriolet in its class.

And a restyle job to the dash that has moved the PT Cruiser more than a notch up-market.

To understand the PT Cruiser you have to understand an American mind set that has brought Disney World and Herbie the Love Bug to the planet.

Hey dudes, cars donít have to be taken that seriously. And if you are going to have fun, why not do it where the neighbours can see you?

That extra rear leg room is ideal for a surfboard, but your friends will appreciate the fact it has about twice as much leg room as a Beetle cab and three times as much stretch space as a Mini.

These two cars are its natural price competitors. The Beetle is more akin to the Cruiser in spirit, while the Mini is uncompromising in its performance focus.

At R249 900 itís the best family-orientated cabriolet of all, and its new 2,4 litre four-cylinder engine at a 105 kiloWatts is much pokier than the two-litre lump it replaces.

We also enjoyed the slickness of the five-speed manual Ďbox. A four-speed auto version is available, but we wouldnít recommend it, as itís old-tech in operation.

All in all, itís groove, Chrysler baby.
