The SMG ‘box is a manual transmission with electro-hydraulic
clutch actuation. No clutch pedal is great for the racetrack,
but can make parking difficult and shifts jerky,
depending on the programme used.
As for power, there is little doubt that BMW’s M Division
drew on its extensive F1 heritage in designing its production
five-litre V10.
Its 373 kilowatt output translates to 75 kilowatts per litre,
while its redline well beyond 8000 rpm is very high for a
road-going engine, let alone a five-litre V10.
As for the transmission, there are different programmes to
alter shift speed. Driven to the limit it’s satisfying to
simply tug on a paddle shift and have the benefits of both a
manual transmission and no shift pattern to worry about.
But at Reef altitude we sometimes battled for a quick getaway
without the benefit of clutch control.
The 6 Series coupe is our favourite modern BMW in terms of
visual appeal. It has a fantastic balance between front and
rear proportions and no superfluous design lines.
The LED taillights are neatly integrated into the rear wings,
and for a coupe the 6 Series has an impressive amount of boot
space.

There is a sense of purpose from all angles.
With the M6 version, distinguishing features include 19-inch
forged aluminum wheels, larger rear air-dam with integrated
diffuser, quad tailpipes and a deeper front air-dam with
gaping air ducts. The M badges are icing on a tasty cake.
