Frankfurt Motor Show 2005
Page 1

Broadcast dates : 9th October 2005
15th October 2005

ShowTime at Frankfurt comes around every two years. In 2005 Renault had lots to shout about with its Clio, but it was this Egeus sports SUV-cum-sedan concept that really set the heart racing.
Citroen was not to be out-done in the dreamland realm. Its C-Sport Lounge is said to be a new interpretation of the Gran Turismo theme. On-board touch screens, multi-media and sofa-style accommodation were grouped with an integral console-driverís seat for maximum relaxation at speed.
Mini made a serious claim for Star of the Show status with its concept wagon. Reminiscent of the Traveller and Countryman wagons we showed on Car Torque in original form a few weeks back, this Mini with rear-leg-room is certain to go into production in the near future. Leather, chrome and aluminium was the chic interior theme.
The Jaguar that finally re-interprets the original E-Type theme was a hit. The new XK Coupe is lower and lighter than the current XK and is said to run 6 second 0-100's in un-supercharged form. Itís in production now, with supercharged and convertible versions to follow.
Also just launched in Europe is the Porsche Cayman, a Boxter Coupe in essence. Itís smaller and cheaper than the 911 and comes with a mid-mounted 3,4 litre flat six.
BMW showed its Z4 Coupe concept thatís certain to be produced, perhaps with one or two changes. It too was one of the show highlights, and is much prettier than the previous M-Coupe and even the current Z4.
