It’s indicative of Audi’s
acceptance as a premium brand today that even the relatively
subtle updates to the new model’s bodywork have made a big
impact. And beneath the sheet metal, the changes run deep.
The compact multi-valve four-cylinder petrol motor provides
tremendous mid-range punch, and also has the ability to spin to
six-thousand eight-hundred revs effortlessly.
It features Audi’s ground-breaking direct-injection
technology, where fuel is fed directly into the combustion
chamber.
Right now Audi cabins are the ones to beat. An absence of
gimmickry, and beautifully trimmed.
There’s none of the squirrelly feeling one sometimes gets at
high speed with a front-wheel-drive car over undulations. And
the two-litre turbo A4 is capable of very high speed.
Driving more sedately, the A4 impresses with its impeccable ride
quality. It’s performance-orientated in a subtle way and the
well-designed suspension complements the stealth-car persona
perfectly.
That emphatic grille hints at its potential. But, hey! Audi has
arrived. There’s no need to get in anyone’s face.
