Toyota RunX 180 RX

Broadcast dates : 17th October  2004
21st October 2004

The Toyota RunX 180 RX is a new model in the RunX range, being slotted in one notch below the potent RSi performance model.

Priced at R188 000 it uses a 100-kilowatt version of the 1,8-litre Toyota engine, substantially less powerful than the 141 kW RSi engine.

It features full leather upholstery, climate control, power windows all round, and Optitron electronic instrumentation lighting as well as new brushed metal trim in the cockpit.

There are new lamps front and rear, restyled bumpers and bonnet, and a new grille which is body-coloured and more integrated into the overall styling.

Like the Corolla, the RunX is simplicity itself to drive. The 1,8-litre motor gets a little obtrusive when revved towards the 6 500 redline, but it has plenty of torque.

The RunX has crisper handling thanks to less rear overhang and its target market focuses on the under-35 age group.

Like the sedan, the RunX doesn’t excel in any particular area, but its overall mix has broad appeal. And build quality on all Toyota’s remains unimpeachable.
